IMAP Server Settings

IMAP server settings-IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) is used by email clients and web-based email applications to retrieve email messages from the mail server. IMAP receives emails, synchronizing the account to the mail server, and enables us to view the messages on other devices. The IMAP settings can be manually done using some preferred standard inputs. The default port number for IMAP is 993, and the secured encryption is SSL.

Set up IMAP and change your SMTP settings to read Gmail messages in other mail clients, like Microsoft Outlook and Apple Mail. When you use IMAP, you can read your Gmail messages on multiple devices, and messages are synced in real time. You can also read Gmail messages using POP.

To avoid temporarily locking yourself out of your account, make sure you don’t exceed 2500 MB per day for IMAP downloads and 500 MB per day for IMAP uploads. If you’re setting up a single IMAP account on multiple computers, try taking a break between each setup.

Check that IMAP is turned on

  1. On your computer, open Gmail.
  2. In the top right, click Settings Settings and then See all  settings.
  3. Click the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
  4. In the “IMAP access” section, select Enable IMAP.
  5. Click Save Changes.
